Evening OPPO’s! I’m going to be in Seattle for work next week attending a AWS training class. I’ve been there a couple times before but either spent most of it down near Renton (local office of my work is there) or just headed into the mountains to fish.
I’ll be staying in North Seattle but will have a rental car to get around. What should I go see/do? I’ll be busy work hours but haven’t made any plans other than that. Looking for good places to eat, catch some live music, cool museums open late and so on.
Last time I was up there someone introduced me to proper Ramen and it has changed my life. I travel a couple times a month and in every city where I’m there for more than a day I try a local ramen place. Favorite was San Francisco, Seattle second, NY third, Boston 4th and everywhere else has been pretty meh so far.
I will eat and enjoy almost anything though, and always ask around for recommendations of places to go and things to eat from locals.
I’d even be game to get together for a beer with any Seattle Oppos that want to.

The Whiskey Bar is good. A cup of Ivars Chowder on the water front. Hop on the Bremerton ferry and ride over and back if you have the time. Just walk on. Hot Pot donuts for a maple bar or apple fritter. Wild Ginger, Mo’oano, the Pink Door for dinner options. If you can go see the upper level of the Smith Tower.
Have fun.

Thank you! The ferry ride was already on my list. I wish I was staying a couple extra days so I could head out into the national park.

I'm pretty out of touch, but I still recommend the pike street market for the novelty during the day, maybe stopping by the Unicorn on Capitol Hill.

The locks in Ballard - the Hiram Chittenden Locks. (Excellent fish & chips at the Totem House right there, too)
Live music? More Ballard, on Ballard Ave, specifically: The Sunset or Tractor Taverns, Connor Byrne’s, Bad Albert. Any meal, but preferably breakfast, at Hattie’s Hat (plus Bloody Mary or 3).
The Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) is pretty cool too.

I don’t know if you’re a beer guy, but Ballard is filthy with breweries. Some tiny, some moderately large, most quite good. It would be imperative to take Lyft or the bus to & from Northgate or wherever you’re staying. ( Plus, parking sucks in a lot of Ballard, Queen Anne, Capital Hill, and a lot of other neighborhoods ALL THE TIME now. )

Do you like Korean food? North Seattle and Shoreline have lots of good Korean restaurants.
If ramen changed your life, make sure to try some pho.

Yep, the same trip last year I had Korean. It was delicious. I ate at one by the fish market last time I was there.
